O Lord, you have searched me and known me!

…Search me, O God, and know my heart!
    Try me and know my thoughts!

And see if there be any grievous way in me,
    and lead me in the way everlasting!

At Lois Schempp's memorial, we reflected:

"We talk a lot about God’s love, and try to wrap our heads around it, but, frankly, it’s hard.  We know ourselves pretty well; I know that there are parts of me that are really unlovable.  

When Psalm 139 says, 'Lord, you have searched me and known me!' that can be terrifying.  So who… knowing all there is to know about me… would love me… In fact, would love me enough to sacrifice on my behalf?'  

But God’s Word tells us plainly:

'God shows his love for us in this way:
while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.'
